Protection4Paws donates equipment to local K-9 unit

by David Specht

Sgt. Chris Hammontree was assigned as MPD’s K-9 handler in June of last year. Sgt. Hammontree and Tigo attended eight full weeks of training, together at the Shreveport Police Dept. K-9 Training facility and have been certified as a team.

Since then, Sgt. Hammontree and Tigo have been working together, and they have been DEA Certified and also have received State Certifications. After becoming certified Sgt. Hammontree has deployed K-9 Tigo on over 20 different assignments ranging from vehicle searches for illegal narcotics to searches for discarded firearms. Sgt. Hammontree and K-9 Tigo have conducted school searches, not only in Webster Parish but also in surrounding Parishes.

Recently, Sgt. Hammontree reached out to the organization “Protection4Paws.” Protection4Paws is a non-profit whose mission is to supply Law Enforcement K9s with the items needed to protect them while they protect us. Protection4Paws has donated hundreds of doses of Narcan to K9 Units across the country.

The Minden Police Department would like to thank Protection4Paws for its donation helping to make K9 Tigo safer. Protection4Paws generously donated not only the Narcan, but also a NarCase v2 tactical carrying case to K9 Tigo.
