The police jury seat of the late Charles Walker went to a runoff following the Oct. 24 election. With the decision in the hands of the voters of district 12 come Nov. 21, candidates Dustin Moseley and Rebecca Shelley Sherrard answered a few questions about what they would do if elected.

Q: Why are you running for the Webster Parish Police Jury?
A: I have always been civic minded, and I have a servant’s heart. This is an opportunity to serve and give back to the families in my district.
Q: While campaigning, what is the biggest concern you have heard? Your biggest concern?
A: Road conditions, Lake Bistineau and the M6 disposal process. My biggest concern: To assure our tax dollars are spent wisely and fairly, as well as transparency between all government agencies and citizens.
Q: Why do you think you are the best candidate?
A: As a professional businesswoman with 30-plus years of experience, I will be aggressive on the issues and help make the right decisions.
Q: What do you want to see done in District 12?
A: Improve our road conditions, clean up our rights-of-way and find a solution to save Lake Bistineau.
Q: What do you think could be better?
A: Programs for our elderly and our children. Supporting quality industry for Camp Minden. Solutions to the problems that will help make our parish and district a better place in which to live and raise our families.

Q: Why are you running for the Webster Parish Police Jury?
A: I have lived in district 12 my entire life. I grew up hunting in these woods and fishing on Lake Bistineau. I love where I am from and I would love the opportunity to be involved in making decisions that will benefit our community.
Q: While campaigning, what is the biggest concern you have heard? Your biggest concern?
A: Since the beginning of my campaign, the concern that has been voiced to me the most is the condition of our roads. I agree with this concern, and I would also like to address many other issues, including our lack of jobs and the condition of our lake.
Q: Why do you think you are the best candidate?
A: Before I became self-employed, I worked for my brother at Moseley Construction. There, I gained general construction experience, such as building roads and driveways and clearing land. After becoming self-employed, I gained experience in the management of business, including fleets of trucks and heavy equipment. Throughout my career, I have become skilled at building business relationships and coordinating large projects. I feel that my various work experiences uniquely qualify me to represent the people of District 12.
Q: What do you want to see done in District 12?
A: I would like to see our roads and the condition of our lake improve dramatically. I would also like to see the old Union Elementary School grounds turned into a recreational center where the children of District 12 can go to play baseball, basketball, etc.
Q: What do you think could be better?
A: In our district, our roads, lake and economy all have room for dramatic improvement.

I love what Dustin Moseley has to say and especially the idea of the rec center for the kids.
Rebecca has shown the Community how strongly she will Represent ALL of us! She led the fight to Stop the Open Burn of 15 million Pounds of Explosives at Camp Minden… She wants to help Mayor Carter improve our area and supports a park at Union Elem. Property.
