Red River Quilters Announce Ruby Anniversary Quilt Show in Shreveport

by Minden Press-Herald

The Red River Quilters is thrilled to announce their highly anticipated Quilt Show, celebrating their Ruby Anniversary of 40 years of fun and service. This exciting event will take place at the Louisiana State Fair Grounds Ag Building, a spacious 26,000 square foot facility located at 3721 Hudson Street in Shreveport on September 8 (9 AM – 6 PM) and September 9 (9 AM – 4 PM). Quilting enthusiasts and art lovers alike can look forward to a spectacular showcase of over 200 quilts, featuring exquisite craftsmanship and creative designs.

One of the highlights of the Quilt Show is the opportunity for talented quilters to be recognized for their exceptional work. First, second, and third place ribbons will be awarded in various categories, moreover, the show will feature special “choice” ribbons presented to quilts selected by esteemed individuals such as the Shreveport mayor, the Bossier City mayor, a media representative, and the quilt show judges as their personal favorites.

The Quilt Show will feature quilter Peggy Bishop, an exceptionally talented artist based in Shreveport. Known for her remarkable body of work, Bishop’s quilts showcase her style and artistic vision. Attendees will have the pleasure of admiring her masterpieces and even have the opportunity to meet and converse with the artist herself in the Hall.

As a special exhibition, the Red River Quilters proudly present “Colorway Contrast.” This captivating display features a collection of quilts created using the same pattern but with different fabrics. The resulting pieces, each with its distinct color palette, showcase the immense creative potential within the world of quilting and demonstrate the profound impact that fabric selection can have on the overall aesthetic of a quilt.

In addition to the quilt exhibition, the event will also offer a silent auction, where attendees can “win” quilted items, providing an opportunity to take home a cherished piece of art. Furthermore, a Guild Booth will be available, allowing visitors to purchase quilted items as well as other handmade crafts, supporting local artisans and adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the show.

Admission will be $10 for age 11 through adult, $5 for ages 5-10, and free for children under age 5.
