Red River Quilters to host annual quilt show September 12-13

by Amber McDown

The Red River Quilters will present their annual quilt show September 12-13 at the Louisiana State Fair Grounds Agriculture Building, 3721 Hudson Ave. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Art of the Quilt.”

The show will feature more than 200 quilted items, including 210 judged quilts with first, second and third place ribbons awarded in each category. Special “choice” ribbons will be presented by the mayors of Shreveport and Bossier City, a media representative and the show’s judge. A new category this year, First Time Youth Quilters, will highlight the work of quilters ages 10-17.

National Association of Certified Judges Masterpiece Quilt Judge Marilyn Hardy of Tyler, Texas, will serve as judge. The show’s featured quilter is Shreveport resident Bobbie Deeter, who has more than 75 years of sewing experience and began quilting in 1978.

Special exhibits include “Quilts that Shout,” showcasing bold, colorful fabrics in the style of Tula Pink or Kaffe Fassette, and the 2025 Quilt Challenge, which features quilts with curved designs or the appearance of curves.

The event will also include a silent auction, door prizes, quilting demonstrations, and a merchant mall with vendors from Louisiana, Texas, and Arkansas. A raffle will offer a chance to win “Southwestern Sunrise,” a 100-by-100-inch quilt with two matching queen-sized shams, pieced by Lynda Britton and quilted by Terry Blackman. Tickets are $5, and the winner does not have to be present to win.

Show hours are 9 AM to 6 PM Sept. 12 and 9 AM to 4 PM September 13. Admission is $10 for ages 11 and older, $5 for children ages 5-10, and free for children 4 and under.
