Richard Cobb Sr. was born to the late George Cobb Sr. and Mary Bell Peete Cobb on May 3, 1922 in Minden. He was the 10 of 14 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Cobb.

He accepted Christ as his personal savior at age 11 and joined the Mt. Calm Baptist Church and remained a dedicated member of the church for 80+ years. The oldest male member of Mt. Calm, Mr. Cobb faithfully served the usher ministry until his health began to fail. He served as Treasurer for the ushers for many years and a member of the Golden Years Ministry.

Richard Cobb united in holy matrimony to Lorene Key on April 6, 1946 and to this union, three children were born Gloria, Richard Jr. and Charlotte.

Mr. Cobb served our country in the United States Army for four years, 11 months and 18 days and received numerous awards and badges. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the American Legion.

He was employed by A & P Grocery and Webster Parish School System as a custodian and school crossing guard.

On Saturday, April 16, Richard Cobb Sr. departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings: Odessa Cottingham, Oneta Crawford, Gladys Washington, Arizona Flowers, George Cobb Jr., Tobe Cobb, Jack Cobb, Leonard Cobb, Sadie Jackson, Eddie Meaner Bailey, Katie Foster, Lois Floyd, and Wilbert Cobb Sr.; a granddaughter, Tan Wardlow; and a son-in-law, Bobby Flournoy.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories five generations: his loving and devoted wife of 70 years, Lorene Key Cobb; his children: Gloria Jean Cobb Flournoy of Dubberly, Richard Cobb, Jr. (Latrell) of Missouri, Texas, and Charlotte Kay Cobb Kirk (Bruce) of Harvey; 10 grandchildren: Aeneas Alpha Keith Ford (Quin), Devin Flournoy, Debra Flournoy, LaTonya Montgomery, Cory Walker Sr., Richerica Wolf (Royln), Ranesha Jackson (Fran), Precious Kirk, Special Kirk and Famous Kirk; 14 great grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Harry L. Key (Ruby Jewel) of Minden, two sisters-in-law, Thelma Cobb of Compton, California and Betty Cotton (Gerald) of Minden; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Richard Cobb Sr. will be held Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calm Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Sheppard Street Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20 in the chapel of Kennon’s Mortuary from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family hour from 6 until 7 p.m. Services are entrusted to Kennon’s Mortuary. Email condolences may be sent to [email protected].
