BATON ROUGE, La. — Secretary of State Nancy Landry reminds Louisiana voters of important deadlines, voting hours, and polling place rules ahead of the Tuesday, Nov. 3 election.
Absentee Ballot Deadlines
The deadline for registrars of voters to receive completed absentee ballots from regular voters is 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2.
Military personnel and overseas voters may request an absentee ballot until 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2. Registrars must receive completed ballots from these voters by the close of polls at 8 p.m. on Election Day.
Election Day Voting
Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Any voter in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
Voters can find their polling location and view their sample ballot through the Secretary of State’s website at GeauxVote.com or the GeauxVote mobile app.
Respect for Election Workers
The Secretary of State asks voters to show patience and respect toward election commissioners and other election workers on Election Day. Because ballots include many races and propositions, voters may need more time to make their selections, which could lead to longer lines at polling places.
Louisiana law (La. R.S. 18:1461.5) prohibits threats or intimidation intended to influence election officials in carrying out their duties. Voters should follow instructions from election commissioners and report any concerns to the appropriate election officials.
Campaign Materials Prohibited at Polling Places
The Secretary of State reminds voters that, under La. R.S. 18:1462, electioneering within 600 feet of the entrance to a polling place is strictly prohibited.
This prohibition applies to everyone, whether or not individuals are affiliated with or working on behalf of a political campaign, and includes wearing campaign or political paraphernalia, such as T-shirts, hats, buttons, or other items displaying campaign slogans or the names of candidates on the ballot.
Election officials will ask individuals who violate this law to remove or cover the prohibited items. Those who refuse to comply will be asked to leave the polling site.
Under La. R.S. 18:1462(A)(2), individuals who remain at a polling site after an election commissioner, law enforcement officer, registrar of voters, or deputy registrar directs them to leave may face penalties.
Election Results
Voters can follow election results Tuesday evening at GeauxVote.com and the GeauxVote mobile app as election officials report results after polls close.
Voters with questions about the election should contact the Secretary of State’s Election Hotline at 800-883-2805.
