Self-care vendor fair celebrates wellness and community

by Amber McDown

A new wellness-focused vendor fair made its debut Saturday, July 26, bringing together small businesses, health professionals, and community members for a day of empowerment, education, and celebration.

Hosted by Dr. LaKishia “G” Grider, owner of The Beautyful Secret, The Secret to Self Care was held as an inaugural event with hopes of becoming an annual tradition.

“This is more than just a self-care day — it’s a celebration of women, men, wellness, and the transformative power of putting yourself first,” Grider stated in a social media post ahead of the event.

Held in Minden, the event featured live demonstrations, health and beauty screenings, giveaways, food vendors, and live music performed by The Violet Company.

Attendees had the opportunity to receive mini consultations, skincare and health tips from licensed professionals, and exclusive discounts on services. Nursing students from Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College offered free blood pressure checks and weight analysis screenings. Face painting was also available for children.

Local businesses showcased a range of products and services, including candles from Milton Candle Co., sweet treats from Ugly Cupcakes, Mary Kay cosmetics, permanent jewelry, handmade quilts, floral arrangements, metal artwork, and natural hair care. Health stations, home health informational booths, personal training services, and representatives from barber and beauty schools were also on-site.

“Today’s Wellness Event was a huge success and I couldn’t be more grateful,” Grider wrote following the event. “We had a wonderful turnout of vendors and guests who came out to support, connect, and celebrate wellness in our community.”

Grider expressed plans to host future events, writing, “This is just the beginning — the first of many more events to come.”
