Several Knights run their way to State Meet

The North Webster Knights track team traveled to Lakeside High School Thursday to host the 3A Regional track meet.

There were 12 schools in attendance with runners vying for a spot in the State Track Meet with top three finishes.

After a long day of competition in temperatures close to 90 degrees, the North Webster boys finished as Regional runner-up, while the Lady Knights took first place, earning the title of Regional champions.

In the field events, North Webster’s Kathy-Ann Driskill took first place in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. Chloe Burns earned third place in the pole vault with a jump of 7 feet. Dreunna Washington took second place in the long jump, bursting for a jump of 17 feet and Shay Smith threw 100’5” in the discus, good for second place.

On the track, Jada Greenard led the way, finishing second in the 200-meter race (26.19) and third in the 100 (12.74). Kentaria Thomas took second in the 100 with a time of 12.67. Burns finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:40.40.

The Lady Knights relay team of Makayla Tell, Dreunna Washington, Thomas and Greenard, took first in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays as well with times of 49.50 and 1:44.23 respectively.
On the boys side, Xavious Eason sped to a first place finish in the 100 (10.96), while Jateadrick Roe finished third in the 400 (53.27). Marquavious Gipson and Wesley Franklin finished second and third in the 110 hurdles, with Franklin adding a first place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (40.40)

The Knights relay team of James Henderson, T.J. Hawthorne, Jalen Smith and Eason came in first place in the 4×100 (42.14) and second in the 4×200 (1:29.28).

These athletes will take part in the state meet in Baton Rouge at LSU, Saturday, May 7.
