Shop with a Hero returns to Minden Walmart

by Amber McDown

The second annual Shop with a Hero event was held Saturday, December 20, at the Minden Walmart, bringing together local emergency responders and children for a holiday shopping experience.

Children were paired with police officers, firefighters and paramedics, who accompanied them through the store as they selected toys, clothing and other items. Most of the children were chosen by members of the Webster Parish School District.

The event began with a procession of emergency vehicles arriving at the store with lights flashing, drawing the attention of other Walmart shoppers as the caravan pulled into the parking area.

Mrs. Claus and the Grinch were also on hand, posing for photos with the children during the event.

“This special day brings together our local officers and community kids for a fun and meaningful shopping experience,” Minden Walmart stated on Facebook. “Together, they’ll shop for holiday gifts, school supplies, or essentials — all while building positive connections and memories.”

Shop with a Hero is held as a community-focused holiday initiative aimed at strengthening relationships between children and local first responders while helping meet seasonal needs.
