On May 26, 1934, in Minden, Louisiana, a beautiful baby girl was born to Sammie and Irene Peters. They named her Bessie Lee Peters. She was the fifth of six children. She united and joined Blue Run Baptist Church in Minden, Louisiana and was an active member until her health failed. She attended Webster High School in Minden and graduated in 1955. She was united in holy matrimony to John Henry Jackson, Sr.
To this union four boys and one girl were born; John Henry Jackson Jr., Sandra Fuller, Michael Jackson, Timothy Jackson, Sr. (Sharon), and Derrick Jackson. Several years later after the death of her first husband John Henry Jackson, Sr., she married Henry Combs Sr.; to this union she inherited five step-children. Rosie Gilbert, Ava Combs, Henry Combs Jr. (Sandra), Johnny Combs, and Sidney Combs (Linda).
Sister Bessie Lee Combs, age 83, was transitioned from this life to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Willis Knighton Pierremont, Shreveport, LA. A life well lived and a rest well earned. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s, and four brothers; Sammie James, David, Davie, and Lee Drew Peters.
She leaves to cherish treasured memories, one daughter; Sandra Fuller, four sons; John Henry Jackson, Jr., Michael Jackson, Timothy Jackson Sr., (Sharon), Derrick Jackson, two sister-n-laws; Larfaye Peters and Omildred Peters, five step-children, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, April 27, 2018 from 6PM-8PM at Benevolent Funeral Home, 401 E. Union St, Minden, LA.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 12:00 Noon at Saint Rest Baptist Church, 611 E. Union Street, Minden, LA.
