SPRINGHILL — Six Webster Parish residents are behind bars after officers of the North Webster Narcotic Task Force armed with arrest warrants put the finishing touch to lengthy investigations into illegal drug trafficking in the northern part of the parish.
“These arrests Thursday were the result of collecting information from sources and making undercover drug buys from individuals in this area,” Springhill Chief of Police and joint task force member Will Lynd said.
“Sheriff Gary Sexton and I recognized the need to join forces to attack the drug problem in north Webster and we believe the task force has been very successful,” he added.
Individuals arrested include:
Jeremiah Allen Stewart, 36, a resident of Reynolds Street in Cullen. Stewart is charged with distribution of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine), two counts of distribution of CDS Sch. I (marijuana) and as a fugitive from the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Department. Stewart’s bond totals $140,000. He reportedly is being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
“Word we’ve picked up on the street is that Stewart is a big-time drug dealer in this area,” Lynd said. “We like getting these individuals off our streets.”
Evangela Cozette Green, 42, who lives in the 500 block of East Road in Cullen, was picked up on two counts of distribution of CDS Sch. II (crack cocaine). Green was picked up at her residence and booked into BDCC. She is being held on a total bond of $100,000, Lynd said.
Dayton Walter Cooper, Jr., 56, a resident of the 200 block of Cullen Square Apartments in Cullen, is charged with distribution of CDS Sch. III (hydrocodone). He was arrested at his residence and booked into BDCC under $50,000 bond.
Christopher Adam Palmer, 29, a resident of the 200 block of 5th Street, Northeast in Springhill. Palmer is charged with distribution of CDS Sch. II (methamphetamine). Lynd said Palmer was already in BDCC when the warrant was served. He was booked and faces a $50,000 bond on the charge.
Brenda Joyce Layton, a 52-year-old resident of the 1400 block of 4th Street Southeast in Springhill, is charged with distribution of CDS Sch. III (hydrocodone). Lynd said Layton turned herself in to agents at the Springhill police department. She was booked into the parish jail (BDCC) and is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Tyerica Janay Robinson, 21, of the 400 block of Center Park in Springhill, was arrested at her residence on a warrant charging her with distribution of CDS Sch. I (marijuana). She was booked into BDCC and is facing a $20,000 bond.
Lynd said the arrests were the result of separate investigations into drug activities in north Webster.
“There’s a lot of work involved in these investigations,” Lynd said. “Officers on our joint task force aren’t just narcotic agents, they also have responsibilities as law enforcement officers. When we’re looking at multiple suspects, we have to work a lot harder.”
