Skeletons take over downtown for Skele-Tour fundraiser

by Amber McDown

Downtown Minden has come to life with a bony twist this October as local businesses take part in the Skele-Tour fundraiser, a Main Street event that combines Halloween fun with community improvement.

Businesses across the city have “adopted” faux skeletons — singles or pairs — decorating them in creative, spooky and often humorous themes for the monthlong display.

Voting is now open for the spookiest, funniest or most creative Skele-Tour display. Each $1 donated equals one vote, and all proceeds benefit Friends of Minden Main Street, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to beautifying the Historic Downtown District with self-watering hanging flower baskets on the light poles.

Votes can be cast through Main Street’s new online platform, designed to make participation quick and easy. Every dollar raised helps support both the contest and the continued blooming of downtown throughout the year.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by participating locations, snap photos with the skeletons and share them on social media using #skeletourminden.
