WASHINGTON — Speaker Johnson released the following statement after the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and the Intelligence Committee released a report uncovering clear evidence that 51 former government officials – prompted by now-Secretary of State Anthony Blinken – conspired to influence the 2020 presidential election by falsely claiming the Hunter Biden laptop was a Russian disinformation operation.
“It has been nearly four years since 51 former government officials – some of whom were on the CIA’s payroll – conspired with the Biden campaign to publish the now-infamous Hunter Biden laptop letter. These officials betrayed the public trust with the explicit intent of protecting their preferred candidate and influencing the outcome of a presidential election. Their misuse of their credentials and alleged access to classified information has done untold damage to the perception and the integrity of our intelligence agencies.
“Because of extensive oversight investigations conducted by the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government and by the Intelligence Committee, the American people now have irrefutable evidence that those connected with the Biden campaign directed an influence operation against American voters, just weeks before the 2020 election. We are grateful to Chairmen Jordan and Turner for bringing these truths to light. House Republicans will continue to lead the fight to restore integrity and accountability to our intelligence agencies.”
