Spring festivities bloom in Minden this weekend

Historic Hwy 80 Yard Sale, Love the Boot Week, and Scottish Tartan Festival highlight weekend events

As spring blooms, Minden residents are gearing up for a weekend filled with festivities.

Historic Hwy 80 Yard Sale

Kicking off on April 19 and running through April 21, the Historic Hwy 80 Yard Sale offers a treasure trove of finds stretching from Texas to Georgia. Visitors can explore streetside vendors and peruse hundreds of booths in antique and thrift stores.

Love the Boot Week

From April 20 to April 28, Minden celebrates Love the Boot Week, focusing on promoting best practices for litter prevention and reduction, beautification, recycling, waste reduction, and sustainability. Two city-wide cleanups are scheduled: on April 20 from 5 PM to 8 PM and on April 25 from 8 AM to 1 PM. Following the final cleanup event, a cleanup awards ceremony is set for April 25 at 2 PM, recognizing participants in categories such as Most Spirited Team, Largest Team, and Most Litter Collected.

Scottish Tartan Festival

Downtown Minden will be bustling on April 20 starting at 10 AM for the Scottish Tartan Festival. “Grab yer kilt and prepare for a day of merrymaking! From the skirl of the bagpipes to the cheers for the Highland Games, from traditional and modern Celtic music to Scottish Highland Dance, there is something for everyone to enjoy,” said Sheila Hoh of the Scottish Society of the Louisiana Highlands. The festival offers a chance to learn about history through clans, artisans, and craftsmen, cheer on champions at the Highland Games competition, and enjoy Scottish foods. Family-friendly activities include the Dog Show, Maypole dancing, and shopping at the Celtic marketplace.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the weekend’s festivities and enjoy the diverse events celebrating Minden’s community spirit.
