Stanley edges Doyline in early season matchup

DOYLINE – The Doyline Panther basketball team jumped out to an early lead against the Stanley Panthers Monday night, but weren’t able to keep up as the visiting Panthers used a furious, second quarter rally to take a big lead and win, 59-48.

Doyline (2-3) came out under control and on fire from both ends, leading by four points at the end of the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the turnover bug bit the homestanding Panthers and Stanley got hot from behind the arc. By the end of the half, Doyline trailed by 15.

A furious rally led by big man Xavieon Jackson and quick combo guard Tyreck Wilson got the Panthers to within just four points of the lead in the fourth quarter, but Stanley would settle in and regain control, extending their lead back to double digits for a final score of 59-48.

Tyreck Wilson had 20 points to lead the Panthers, followed by Xavieon Jackson with 12 points and Jatavion Jackson with 11. Desmond Jackson added three points and Cameron Smith had two points.

Dodson Tournament Results

Over the weekend, the Panthers played in the Dodson tournament, losing in the championship game to Atlanta. The Panthers won 63-61 in overtime against Calvin and handled Dodson, 67-39, to get to the title game.

Tyreck Wilson and Jatavion Jackson averaged 14 points per game in the tournament and Xavieon Jackson averaged 13 points. Decarri Markray scored 15 points in the championship game.
