Suspected shooter gets weapon charge

by Minden Press-Herald

More charges have been added to a man arrested in the shooting of the mother of his children last week.
Kendrick Dermanie Taylor, 36, of the 700 block of Plum Street, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and violation of sex offender registration.

Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton says he turned himself in to Minden authorities Friday for aggravated second-degree battery and aggravated assault with a firearm. Bond for these charges is set at $600,000, but no bond has been set on the possession and violation charges.

During their investigation, detectives learned he failed to meet the requirements of his sex offender registration by not having his status listed on his driver’s license and listing a non-registered address on his tax return. According to the police report, he was also driving a vehicle that he had not registered on his offender registration.

Taylor is accused of shooting the mother of his three children following an argument, Sexton said at the time of his arrest.

Chief Deputy Bobby Igo Jr. said Thursday the woman was shot in the chest area around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. She was transported by her mother to Minden Medical Center but later transferred to University Health in Shreveport with what are believed to be non life-threatening injuries.

Taylor was transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
