Minden city police officers responding to a reported reckless driver on Interstate 20 came away from the incident with a Texas man in custody and a quantity of illegal narcotics recovered from the vehicle he was driving.

Bacilio Sanchez, a Cedar Hill, Texas resident, is charged with possession of CDS Sch. I (marijuana), possession of CDS Sch. II (Vyvanse), possession of drug paraphernalia and improper lane usage, Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper said. The suspect is being held in Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

Sanchez reportedly was heading east on Interstate 20 when the police were called. Officers Jesse Cutrer, Jeremy Sitter and Clint Smith responded and initiated a traffic stop near the Minden exit, Cropper said.

“The suspect was acting suspiciously and asking a lot of questions when our officers first stopped him,” Cropper said. “Initially, he refused to consent to a search of his vehicle when we asked, but changed his mind when he saw Officer Clint Smith and his K-9 partner, Harley, drive up.”

During the subsequent search, Cropper said officers located two marijuana roaches and a green, leafy substance suspected to be marijuana in a pill bottle. The suspect admitted a black bag in the vehicle’s trunk contained more marijuana, and Cropper said officers found the bag containing suspected marijuana and seeds for planting.

Another pill bottle containing 60 suspected Vyvanse tablets and paraphernalia for smoking marijuana was also located in the vehicle, Cropper said.
