THEATRE LAUNCHES CREATIVE AGING PROGRAM FOR SENIOR CITIZENS

‘MAHOGANY ENSEMBLE THEATRE PRESENTS ACTING FOR THE AGES PROGRAM’

Mahogany Ensemble Theatre (MET) in collaboration with the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC) will launch its creative aging program, Acting for the Ages: A Reader’s Theatre Experience. Partnering with the SUSLA AmeriCorps Seniors Foster Grandparent Program, Acting for the Ages will kick-off on World Theatre Day, Monday, March 27, 10 AM at Bilberry Park Community Center, 1902 Alabama Ave., Shreveport, LA.

Acting for the Ages, the first creative aging program in the area, focuses on senior citizens using the arts to improve the quality of life through creative expression and socialization. This program will consist of two 8-week sessions (1) with the Foster Grandparents Program and

(1) with the general public. From March 2023 – May 2023, participants will engage in an introductory theatre arts residency program led by MET Founding Artistic Director, Dr. Angelique Feaster Evans—professional SAG-eligible actress, director, lifetime Louisiana Theatre/Speech certified educator, and trained creative aging teaching artist.

Participants will engage in weekly instructional arts-based sessions, facilitated creative conversations with guest seasoned artists, and present a culminating staged reading in May 2023. The guest artists include: Brenda Wimberly—international vocalist and actress; Patricia Britton-Hall—musician, choral director, and music educator; Robert Alford—LSUS Associate Professor of Theatre, director, actor, and Yale School of Drama graduate; Neverlyn Townsel—film/stage actress and singer.

Acting for the Ages is supported in part by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
