Three people were arrested after a disturbance broke out during a large community event at Victory Park, according to a Minden police report.
Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Park Highway around 2:30 PM in reference to a fight in progress while a bike giveaway was underway at the park, where police reported hundreds of people were gathered, including many children.
Upon arrival, officers observed Deana Pyle of Coushatta standing in the roadway, visibly upset and crying. Police also observed Dakota Hooker holding a small child and yelling profanities. Officers instructed Hooker to stop yelling due to the large crowd and presence of children, but police said he continued to scream and use profanity.
When officers attempted to detain Hooker, police reported he actively resisted commands. A Taser was used to gain compliance, and Hooker was taken into custody after a brief struggle and placed in a patrol unit.
During the arrest, Melissa Rowell attempted to intervene and interfere with officers, police said. Officers pushed Rowell back while continuing to gain control of Hooker.
Further investigation determined that Pyle and Rowell, who are daughter and mother, had been involved in a physical altercation prior to officers’ arrival. Hooker is Rowell’s son and Pyle’s brother, and police reported he was upset over family-related issues.
All three were arrested and charged with disturbing the peace.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
