A series of vehicle burglaries in Minden neighborhoods over the past several weeks may have been solved with the arrest early Sunday morning of a pair of Minden men and a juvenile.

Kendrick Wyral Heard, 18, and Aarenyon Taylor, 17, were arrested on Dixie Street near Pennsylvania Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. Sunday when the trio was stopped by officers who were alerted by the group’s suspicious behavior, Minden Chief of Police Steve Cropper said.

Heard and Taylor have each been charged with six counts of simple burglary, Cropper said.

“We responded to a call from a person in the area and when officers Shawn Jenkins, Brandon Curry and Lt. Spencer Tippen stopped to speak with the three individuals, they noticed one was sweating heavily even though the temperature was in the low 40s,” Cropper said.

Cropper said the juvenile and the 17-year-old were smoking, a violation of the ordinance of minor in possession of tobacco. That offense gave officers a reason to conduct a pat-down of the suspects, the chief said.

“On one suspect, officers found three cell phones, two sets of headphones, a newer wallet with $249 in cash, a loose $20 bill and tobacco items,” Cropper said.

MPD Detective Sgt. Keith King Jr. interviewed Heard and Taylor and gathered enough information to support the simple burglary charges, the chief said.

“We believe these arrests could clear up a number of vehicle burglaries we’ve had in residential areas the past,” Cropper said.
