Skeletons are coming back to life in downtown Minden this October, but instead of rattling chains, they’ll be dressed in costumes, striking poses and bringing a little humor to storefronts all across the city.
The City of Minden Main Street Program is once again hosting its Ticklebones fundraiser, a Halloween tradition that turns businesses into spooky — and sometimes silly — showcases for decorated skeletons. Unlike past years when the bony figures made only a brief appearance, the Ticklebones will haunt the community all month long.
Local businesses can reserve their skeletons for $50 each or $120 for a pair by contacting [email protected] before the September 15 deadline. Skeletons will be available for pickup September 25-30 at City Hall, ready to be dressed, staged and brought to life with creative displays.
A judging panel will narrow the entries to the top 10 decorated or themed locations, and starting October 10, the community will take over. Every dollar spent in support of a business counts as one vote, with the winner earning a gift basket full of local gift cards and, of course, bragging rights. Proceeds will go toward new hanging baskets to brighten the Main Street District.
Residents can also join the fun by collecting a punch card and map of participating locations, snapping selfies with the skeletons and sharing them on social media with #skeletourminden and #mindenmainstreet. Completed punch cards may be entered into a cauldron at City Hall for a chance to win a gift basket.
Winners will be announced November 3, wrapping up a month of festive frights, community spirit and downtown fun.
