The Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardeners will host their annual “Trails & Trellises” garden tour on Saturday, April 18, from 9 AM to 3 PM, rain or shine.
The event will feature four private gardens in Minden, offering visitors a variety of landscapes, plantings, and garden designs. Tickets are $10 in advance from any Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardener or $15 the day of the tour at any of the participating gardens. A detailed map and garden descriptions are available on the organization’s Facebook page and website.
Featured stops on the tour include the Jeanne Wiggins Garden at 1486 Almond Circle, where a plant sale will also be held. Known as Whispering Creek Farm, the property features island beds surrounding mature trees, along with heirloom and pass-along plants combined with azaleas, roses, iris, lilies, hydrangeas, and hostas. Native vines climb trellises, while statuary, water features, and large iron ore rocks add visual interest. Visitors can also view a pond that attracts migratory waterfowl.
The Renee McCollum White Garden at 244 Chrislo Drive offers what organizers describe as a “Garden of Moments,” with winding paths, seating areas, and clusters of flowers creating a series of small destinations. Structured elements such as stone pavers and planters blend with natural plantings to create a cottage-style landscape designed to evoke calm and curiosity.
At 1503 Eames, the Toni Hooper Garden features a manicured lawn and colorful flower beds centered around a fountain surrounded by day lilies. The backyard includes a porch swing, blooming roses and hydrangeas, and whimsical folk art. An outdoor kitchen will be used to provide refreshments during the tour.
The Syble McCleskey Garden at 210 Sugar Creek Loop includes approximately 1½ acres of landscaping with large oaks, pines, and native trees. The garden, a long-term project now undergoing revitalization, features vintage azaleas, new rose and wildflower beds, and a variety of garden art, including metal pieces, glass totems, and rustic elements.
Proceeds from the tour support the Master Gardener program. For more information, visit phlmg.com or the Piney Hills Louisiana Master Gardeners Facebook page.
