Minden Police arrested two people for reportedly hiding a wanted felon from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Jalen Rogers, 24, and Brandy Turner, 22, of the 700 block of Theus Street, were arrested on the charge of accessory after the fact. In addition, Rogers was charged for resisting by false information and as a fugitive from Minden Police.
Police Chief Steve Cropper says Levert Letrell Young, wanted by the sheriff’s office on felony warrants, was discovered hiding in a closet at the residence.
“We were contacted by the sheriff’s office about Young, and they had gotten information that he was at an address on Theus St.,” he said. “We went out there to assist and they made contact with Rogers and Turner.”
The two were asked if Young was inside the residence, and they reportedly denied it. Cropper says they appeared to be nervous.
“After splitting the two up, Turner indicated that no one was inside,” he said. “They asked Rogers the same thing, and he denied it as well.”
The officers asked for consent to search the residence, and they refused, he said. A perimeter was set up around the home, and while officers were obtaining a search warrant, Rogers relented to the search. Young was discovered inside the residence at that time, Cropper said.
Rogers and Turner were then placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.
While officers were obtaining information on the two suspects, Rogers reportedly gave an incorrect spelling of his name.
A background check revealed he had three active bench warrants from city court, the chief said.
Young was placed under arrest by the sheriff’s office on the warrant for contempt of court the same day in addition to charges of domestic abuse battery, misdemeanor theft, aggravated assault, simple possession of schedule I controlled dangerous substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The charges were in relation to an incident that occurred the night before when he reportedly pulled a woman from a vehicle and hit and kicked her. Sheriff’s deputies say he threatened to strike the woman with a tire tool, and then put her back in the vehicle.
The two drove to Minden, and Young reportedly took some cash from her wallet.
The victim was able to escape and get help.
All three were transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
