Two Shreveport teenagers were arrested and booked into the Webster Parish penal facility after deputies discovered a quantity of illegal drugs during a traffic stop early Tuesday.
Rodney W. Simpson, 18, and passenger Quincy L. Knuckles, 19, were reported to have been traveling 89 mph in a 55 mph zone on U.S. Highway 371 near the Midway water tower just after midnight. During the stop, a deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
According to the sheriff’s office, when Simpson and Knuckles exited the vehicle, a small clear plastic bag containing a green leafy substance was visible on the passenger seat. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle uncovered approximately 3.5 ounces of the same substance packaged in clear plastic bags located in the center console and under the passenger seat. An open alcoholic beverage was also found in a compartment on the driver’s side door.
Simpson was charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, careless operation and violation of the open container ordinance, Parker said. Knuckles was charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
Both Simpson and Knuckles are being held at Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center on bonds set at $10,000 each.
