Golfers from across the region gathered at Pine Hills Country Club on June 20-21 for the 2026 UCAP Charity Classic, a two-man scramble tournament benefiting the United Christian Assistance Program.
The annual event is one of UCAP’s two largest fundraisers, along with Hungerfest. Proceeds support the nonprofit organization’s mission of assisting local residents facing financial hardship through food assistance, help with rent and utility payments, clothing, and emergency short-term lodging.
UCAP relies on donations and community fundraising efforts to provide aid to individuals and families throughout the Minden area.
Teams competed in five flights during the two-day tournament.
In the Championship Flight, Brian Grubbs and Gavin Netherland captured first place with a two-round score of 119, finishing one stroke ahead of Kevin Anders and Peyton Wells at 120. Lance McGuire and Tim Vining placed third with a score of 123.
The President Flight was won by Mike Mills and Jack Baten with a score of 125. Bobby Taylor and Leigh Cathey finished second at 128, while Trevor and Richard Randle placed third at 129.
In the 1st Flight, Bubba Russell and Mike Johnson claimed first place with a score of 135. Michael Miller and Gill Greer finished second at 137, followed by Matt Alexander and Hays Brown in third at 138.
The 2nd Flight championship went to Donnie Cawthon and Tim Faircloth, who posted a score of 133. Austin and Troy Booth tied for second with Hank Haynes and Travis Randle at 138. Rob Valentine and David Dumas tied for fourth at 141.
Jack Byrd and Robert Clark won the 3rd Flight with a score of 139. Wesley and Tyler Mandino finished second at 144, while Paul Gulley and Jeff Mourad tied with Ed Brown and Johnny Benton for third at 145.
In the 4th Flight, Mike Dickson and Shalom Baggett earned first place with a score of 150. Clifford Scott and Frank Villard finished second at 151, and Russ Lilley and Steve Stasierowski placed third at 155.
Tournament organizers expressed appreciation to the golfers, sponsors, volunteers, and community supporters who helped make the event successful. Funds raised will help UCAP continue providing assistance to local residents facing unexpected financial challenges and emergencies.
