Webster Fair’s Livestock Show swings into action with Swine Show

by Amber McDown

The Webster Fair’s Livestock Show charged ahead on the second night, featuring a showcase of swine. Participants, both the young lady and gentlemen, demonstrated their showmanship skills by exhibiting their knowledge of pig breeds and effective care practices. The event comprised three segments, starting with a demonstration of breed knowledge and caregiving skills. Participants then paraded their pigs around the arena for the judges to assess market or breeding potential. The finale of the evening was the lively and entertaining Pig Push, where children, sometimes accompanied by parents, enthusiastically navigated pigs around the arena.

In the Swine Showmanship competition, Zander Thompson secured 1st place, and Kyleigh Cruse took 2nd place in the Class I division for entrants aged 15 years and above. In the Class II division for entrants aged 13-14 years, Levi DeHart clinched 1st place, and Gavin Spurlock claimed 1st place in the Class III division for ages 9-12 years. Overall, Zander Thompson emerged as the Swine Showmanship Champion, and Levi DeHart was honored as the Reserve Champion.

In the Market Swine Class competition, entries were categorized into four classes based on the weight of the pig. Gavin Spurlock secured 1st place in Class II with his 190 lb pig, while Zander Thompson dominated Class III with his 247 lb pig. Class IV witnessed Zander Thompson’s prowess, securing 1st and 3rd places with his 264 lb and 261 lb pigs, respectively, while Levi DeHart secured 2nd place with his 260 lb pig. In the final class, Class V, Zander Thompson showcased excellence once again, clinching 1st and 2nd places with his 280 lb and 325 lb pigs. Ultimately, Zander Thompson was crowned the Grand Champion, and Levi DeHart secured the Reserve Champion title in the Market Swine Classes, capping off the swine exhibition at the Webster Fair’s Livestock Show.
