Webster Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Competes at Regionals

The 2023 4-H Shooting Sports Northern Regional Competition was held March 24 – April 2 at Long Range Alley Gun Club and David Means Memorial 4-H Center in Grand Cane and Shreveport Gun Club. After months of preparation, members of Webster Parish 4-H Shooting Sports competed in a variety of shooting sports competitions bringing home a total of 81 medals over the course of the week. 

In Air Rifle Nationals, Danielle Collins placed 2nd in Silhouettes and 5th Overall. Cailey Nail placed 7th Overall and Camryn Nail placed 10th Overall. In Air Rifle Juniors, Emmersyn Demmon placed 7th in 3-Position.

In BB Gun, Mahailey Nail tied for 1st place on the BB test, placed 4th in Kneeling, 10th in Standing, and 4th Overall. Madison McGraw tied for 1st place on the BB test. Sadie Smith tied for 7th on the test, placed 4th in Prone, 9th in Standing, and 10th Overall. Camryn Nail placed 5th in Prone, 3rd in Sitting, 8th in Standing, and 6th Overall. Madison Miller placed 6th in Kneeling, 4th in Standing, and 8th Overall. Drake Puckett placed 6th in Sitting and 1st in Standing. Lanee Demmon placed 8th in Sitting. Webster Parish also had the 1st place BB team composed of Mahailey Nail, Camryn Nail, Madison Miller, Madison McGraw, and Drake Puckett.

In Smallbore Rifle, Mahailey Nail placed 1st in Junior CMP No Scope and 3rd in Junior Silhouette. Emmersyn Demmon qualified for state in Junior CMP Scope. Cailey Nail placed 2nd, Madison McGraw placed 3rd, and Danielle Collins placed 4th in Senior CMP No Scope.  Lila Jo Walker placed 9th in Smallbore Rifle Nationals. 

In Shotgun, Wyatt Chandler and Franklin Bridwell qualified for state in Junior Modified Trap. Nolan Still placed 4th, Ethyn Rader placed 9th, Kaden McCuen and Brice Baker qualified for state in Senior Modified Trap. They made up the the 2nd place team in Senior Modified Trap. Alex Bailey placed 10th in Advanced Shotgun.

In Archery, Modified FITA, Jackson Baker placed 1st in Junior Recurve Bare Bow. Brailyn Baker placed 2nd, Jaxon Pate placed 7th, Nia Lee placed 10th, and Annabel Campbell qualified for state in Junior Genesis. As a team, they placed 1st. Mary Jane Migues qualified for state in Junior (9-11) Compound Limited. Preston Winston placed 2nd and Levi Bogdan placed 7th in Junior (12-13) Compound Limited. Mallory Coleman placed 3rd, Danielle Collins placed 6th, and Lila Jo Walker qualified for state in Senior Genesis. As a team, along with Maddie McGraw, they placed 2nd. Madelyn Smith placed 2nd, Joshua Kaffka placed 3rd, Luke Butcher placed 5th, and Landen Knotts placed 8th in Senior Compound Open. They also placed 1st as a team. Noah Kaffka qualified for state in Senior Limited.

In 3D Archery, Levi Bogdan placed 3rd, Preston Winston tied for 5th, and Abigail Butcher qualified for state in Junior (12-13) Compound Limited. As a team, along with Blake Pipes, they placed 2nd. Luke Butcher placed 4th, Landen Knotts placed 8th, Madelyn Smith placed 9th, and Joshua Kaffka placed 10th in Senior Open. They also placed 1st as a team. Noah Kaffka qualified for state in Senior Limited. 

In Field Archery, Luke Butcher placed 2nd. 

These shooters will advance to the Louisiana 4-H Shooting Sports State Competition scheduled for April 14 – April 23. The Webster Parish 4-H Shooting Sports Program is under the leadership of coordinators Benjamin Gorman and Phyllis McGraw and coaches Danny Puckett, Benji Bell, Phyllis McGraw, Sutton Orenbaun, Brian Still, Jeri McCuen, Wade Butcher, Regina Butcher, and Benjamin Gorman.
