Webster Parish Libraries begin Mathematics Week with escape room events

by Amber McDown

Webster Parish Libraries kicked off the final week of Discovery Camp, Mathematics Week, with escape room events on July 1 and 2 at the Minden main branch. Teens and children were challenged to find clues, solve puzzles, and perform calculations to get the correct coordinates to return the fictional spacecraft back to Earth. The darkened room was filled with charts and simulated outer space objects, and there was a live feed from the International Space Station playing on the big screen.

The escape room events aimed to engage young minds in mathematical thinking and problem-solving in a fun, interactive setting. Participants worked together to overcome the challenges and complete their mission. The camp’s focus on mathematics provided a unique opportunity for children and teens to apply their math skills in a real-world scenario.

Discovery Camp’s Mathematics Week is part of Webster Parish Libraries’ ongoing efforts to promote education and learning through creative and engaging activities.
