Webster Ready Start will host a free Brain Building Play Day on Friday, March 20, from 9:30 AM to 1 PM at the Minden Rec Center, offering activities and resources for families with children from birth to age 4.
The event will feature brain-building activities, crafts, hands-on exploration, and the Wee Play Mobile. Each child who attends will receive a free 12-inch teddy bear while supplies last.
Organizers said the goal of the event is to educate parents and caregivers about the importance of building a child’s brain during the first five years of life, including the value of play and limiting screen time.
Families will have the opportunity to meet representatives from local early learning programs, referred to as “Brain Architects,” including early learning centers that serve children from birth to age 4, Head Start programs for children ages 18 months to 4 years, and Webster Parish Pre-K programs for children who are 4 years old by September 30, 2026.
The event will also include a mobile teddy bear clinic in partnership with Minden Medical Center. Additional participants include the Webster Parish Library, the VYJ Family Resource Center, and the Webster Parish Health Unit, which will provide printed immunization records for families.
All local early learning centers, as well as Head Start representatives, are expected to attend. Organizers said donors will also be invited to learn more about the initiative and its impact on the community.
This event is free and open to the public.
