Witches, wizards, sweet treats, and plenty of Halloween fun will take over downtown Minden later this month as the Witches Ride of Minden returns Saturday, October 24.
With less than three weeks until the event, organizers are preparing for a full day of activities surrounding the popular Witches Ride parade, including a children’s coloring contest, a new cake walk, and other festivities. Volunteers are also being sought to help make the event possible.
“The countdown is ON!” organizers posted on social media. “Before we know it, Minden will be filled with witches, brooms, golf carts, fabulous throws, fall fun and a whole lot of good witches doing good.”
This year’s festivities will include a new old-fashioned cake walk featuring cakes, sweets, and other treats donated by local bakers, businesses, and artisans from across the area.
Younger participants can get in on the Halloween fun through the Witches Ride Coloring Contest. Coloring sheets designed by Birdie Lu Designs are available at participating downtown Minden restaurants.
Children can color and decorate their entries before bringing them to the Witches Ride Festival on October 24. Entries should be turned in at the registration table inside the Minden Civic Center by 4 PM. Two winners will each receive $75.
Organizers are also looking for volunteers who can assist for a few hours or throughout the day. Those who register to volunteer will be contacted by a committee head with an assignment and additional information.
For spectators looking to make a day of the event, Minden Main Street is offering designated tailgate spaces beneath the downtown water tower, across from the First Methodist Church pumpkin patch. Each space includes a tent set up for the group and can be used throughout the day before providing a viewing location for the parade.
As of Tuesday, October 6, 14 tailgate spaces remained available. Proceeds from the spaces will be reinvested into community festivals through Minden Main Street.
The Witches Ride has grown into an annual downtown tradition combining Halloween festivities with charitable giving. Participants dress in costume and make their way through downtown aboard decorated golf carts and other entries as spectators line the route for the parade.
The 2026 Witches Ride of Minden will be held Saturday, October 24, in downtown Minden. Additional event information and updates are available through the Witches Ride of Minden’s social media pages.
