A former secretary with the Slack Group has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for stealing money from her employer.

Judge Michael O. Craig, 26th Judicial District, sentenced Lori Denise Hughes, 39, of Springhill, to 10 years at hard labor with all but five years suspended. She received five years of active supervised probation and she must pay restitution in the amount of $202,240, minus the $1,600 she paid the day of her sentencing.

In March 2015, Hughes reportedly admitted to taking cash from renters and posting it as paid by credit card and then pocketing the cash. Minden Police detectives said she would take the cash and load it onto a money card from Walmart. Police say she took roughly $200,000 from her employer.

She reportedly told detectives she took the money because she was behind on her bills.

She must pay the full restitution to the Slack Group during her five-year probation period.
