The Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters clinched the Conference USA regular-season title and extended their win in streak to 14 with a 63-59 victory over Kennesaw State Saturday in Kennesaw, Ga.
Louisiana Tech improved to 21-5 overall and 14-1 in the conference. The Lady Techsters have a four-game lead over second-place Florida International with three games left, Kennesaw State dropped to 12-14 and 5-10.
Ten Lady Techsters scored. Paris Bradley and Joanna Morris had 14 points each. Bradley, Morris and Alexia Weaver had four assists apiece. Ten players had at least one rebound.
The Lady Techsters led 37-30 at the half after outscoring the Owls 20-12 in the second quarter.
The game was tied at 47 at the end of three quarters. Louisiana Tech led 55-54 with 3:26 left.
Bradley hit a 3-pointer with 2:46 left to put the Lady Techsters up by four.
Morris was fouled shooting a 3 with 1:05 left. She made all three free throws and Tech led 61-54. Kennesaw State never got closer than the final margin.
“Gritty defensive effort in the fourth quarter,” Louisiana Tech Head Coach Brooke Stowe said. “It comes down to defending, rebounding, and taking care of the basketball when you are on the road.
“Really proud of our effort and toughness, winning in late February is hard, especially on the road. This is what the games are going to look like in the tournatment and our team is showing that we can win in these situations. We did it with a gritty defensive effort there in the fourth.”
