Members of Woodmen Life Chapter 54 donated $1,000 to Webster Parish Men of Courage on Thursday, December 18, during a presentation at the Minden Civic Center to support Minden Hearts for Homeless, a newly formed organization addressing homelessness and food insecurity in the Minden area.
The donation will be used to assist efforts aimed at meeting immediate needs related to homelessness and general food insecurity in the community.
Dustin Hayes, representing Woodmen Life, said the decision followed recent discussions within the chapter about how to respond to growing needs across the region.
“At a recent meeting we were discussing what we could do to address this food insecurity situation that has been across our whole area. Tonight, we have chosen Minden’s Hearts for Homeless as a worthy recipient of that financial assistance,” Hayes said. “Woodmen is trying to get people to engage with their communities. I hope each person here is encouraged by this donation to join in where you can to help love your fellow citizens.”
D McCoy of Men of Courage spoke about a new Blessing Cabinet recently installed outside the group’s offices at 705 Broadway. The cabinet is intended to provide essential items such as blankets, toiletry items, and food that does not require cooking. McCoy said. “It’s to meet the needs of individuals in our community.”
McCoy also announced plans for a community Christmas dinner scheduled for December 23 at the American Legion Hall. Organizers are still seeking volunteers to help cook and serve meals.
Men of Courage officials said community support remains critical as the organization expands its outreach efforts, including the Blessing Cabinet and seasonal meal programs. Residents are encouraged to donate needed items or volunteer their time to assist with ongoing efforts to address food insecurity and homelessness in the Minden area.
