Young Artists and Book Lovers Invited to Colorful Celebration of Read Across America Week

by Minden Press-Herald

Calling all young artists and book lovers! In honor of Read Across America Week, Webster Parish Libraries is excited to announce a special coloring contest for students from Pre-K to 6th grade. This creative initiative aims to inspire children to unleash their artistic talents while showcasing their love for reading through colorful expressions.

Read Across America, launched by the National Education Association in 1998, is a year-round program dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading. Read Across America Week, observed from March 2nd to March 6th, coincides with the birthday of beloved author Dr. Seuss. To commemorate this literary celebration, Webster Parish Libraries is hosting a month-long coloring contest throughout March.

Contest Rules:

  1. Participants must use either crayons or colored pencils.
  2. Entries must be the original work of the child.
  3. Limit one entry per child.
  4. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, March 13th, 2024.

Completed entries can be dropped off at either the Minden Library Branch or the Springhill Library Branch by Wednesday, March 13, 2024. Participants are encouraged to submit their entries to the location nearest to their school.

All submissions will be proudly displayed at local library branches throughout the remainder of March. Winners will be selected by members of the community in grade categories: Pre-K & Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd, 3rd & 4th, and 5th & 6th. The names of contestants, their respective schools, and grade levels may be shared on social media and in the local paper.

For those interested, entries can be retrieved from April 3rd to April 5th at their respective library branches.

This coloring contest promises to be a delightful celebration of creativity, imagination, and the joy of reading. Webster Parish Libraries invites all young artists and book enthusiasts to participate and make their mark on this exciting event. Let your imagination soar and join us in commemorating Read Across America Week in vibrant color!
