The Minden All-Stars rolled to a 10-0 victory over West Monroe in the first round of the Diamond Youth Baseball 9U state tournament Thursday at Tinsley Park in Bossier City.
Minden faces Jackson Parish Friday at 1 p.m. in the double-elimination tournament. Jackson Parish defeated Winnsboro 7-0 in the first round.
After dropping a close decision to Buckeye, Minden bounced back with a 13-8 victory over Mamou in pool play games in the Coach Pitch 7U tournament in Vidalia. Minden plays the winner between Sabine and Rapides West Friday at 12:45 p.m.
In the 8U Coach Pitch North Regional tournament in Shreveport, Minden lost two close decisions 7-5 and 2-n in pool play. Minden continues play in the first round Friday.
According to stats on the team’s GameChanger site, the Minden 9U team got stellar pitching performances from Nash Leonard and Jett Jones in the four-inning game. Leonard didn’t allow a hit and struck out seven In 2 1/3 innings. Jones allowed one hit and struck out four in 1 2/3 innings.
Seven Minden players combined for seven hits.
In addition to Leonard and Jones, team members are Calvin Pendergrass, Brooks Lewis, Liam Hurley, Brooks Ingles, Ridge Reno, Lincoln Gibson, Noah Minter, Easton Williams, Parker McEachern and Hudson McCain.
