Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton says approximately 12 students were arrested at Lakeside Jr./Sr. High School Thursday after a fight turned into a brawl.
All were arrested for disturbing the peace by fighting following what deputies say was a gang fight.
Joseph Warren Lewis, 17, of the 300 block of SE 2nd Street in Sibley; Lamario Nathanial Elkins, 18, of the 10 block of Shreve Drive in Minden; Ger’Lia Ty’key Fields, 17, of the 4700 block of Highway 531 in Heflin; and Jonacy Idasia Jones, of Hoodtown Road in Arcadia were arrested for disturbing the peace by fighting.
“It was just one of those situations where it was a spat between a boyfriend and girlfriend,” he said. “We took them all into custody and to the sheriff’s office and showed them what will happen in adult life.”
He says by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived, school faculty and staff pretty well had everything under control.
Summonses were issued for all 12 students, he said, and one parent got involved. He says she was worried about her child, and wouldn’t stop interfering, so she was summonsed for interfering with an officer.
“As far as any punishment for the students, that will be handled by the school board,” he said.
He went on to say that one student received minor medical attention and school returned to normal Thursday.
