Michael D. Jefferson was born to the late Charles J. Jefferson and Margaret Y. Jefferson on Oct. 18, 1963. Michael was the first child born to this parentage.

Michael accepted Christ at an early age and was an active member of Mt. Calm Missionary Baptist Church prior to his military years. Michael was a proud graduate of Minden High School Class of 1982.

Michael’s life journey included many facets: devoted husband, father, grandfather and caring friend. During Michael’s marriage to Rhonda, he was in the United States Army and Air Force. A decorated combat veteran, he served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm. His tours of duty entailed two years and seven months in the Air Force, (1982-1985) as a Security Policeman and nine years and three months in the Army, (1987-1996) as a Military Policeman with the responsibility of making sure the Air Field was secure for plane landings.
Michael united in holy matrimony to Sharon Rene Key on March 8, 2003. No biological children were born to this union, but Mike and Nae were acting parents to many family members.

Michael made his peaceful transition on Dec. 1, 2015. His memory and legacy will be cherished and always remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. Jefferson and Margaret Y. Jefferson; his father and mother-in-law, Harrison Key, Jr. and Mattie Mae Key.

Mike will fondly and forever be missed by his wife, Sharon of Minden; his sister, Colonel Charlene D. Jefferson, USAF Retired of Virginia; three children, Dantaveyia Jefferson (Mesha), Michael Jefferson, Jr. (Jessica), and LaGwenia Jefferson (Armond); aunt, Juanita J. Robinson of Minden; uncle, Rodney C. Nelson, Sr. (Gracie), of Minden; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Michael D. Jefferson will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 5 at Mt. Calm B.C., with the Rev. T. A. Knapp officiating. Interment will follow at the Sheppard Street Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4 with family hour from 6 p.m. until 7 in Kennon’s Mortuary Chapel. Email condolences may be sent to [email protected].
