Webster Parish wraps up successful 17th annual Pack the Bus drive

by Amber McDown

The Webster Parish School District’s 17th annual Pack the Bus school supply drive concluded Saturday with strong community participation, generous donations, and a dedicated team of volunteers braving high summer temperatures to support local students.

Held Friday, July 25, from 4 to 7 PM and Saturday, July 26, from 8 AM until noon, the event took place in the Walmart parking lots of Minden and Springhill. Volunteers stationed near parked school buses collected school supplies from shoppers and donors.

“This year’s Pack the Bus got off to a great start Friday,” said Community Liaison Ursula Hullaby. “We had many volunteers and support from the community shoppers at Walmart. Record heat temps did not stop the support. We are grateful, and we don’t take for granted the support!”

The donated items will be distributed during the district’s annual Back to School Bash, which takes place Sunday, August 3 from 3 till 6PM. School begins August 11 for Webster Parish students.

The annual supply drive aims to help students enter the classroom equipped and ready to learn while easing the financial burden on local families.
