A Springhill man was arrested last week after fleeing from a traffic stop and being found with multiple types of illegal drugs, according to the Springhill Police Department.
On August 20, officers stopped a Nissan with a shattered windshield that was blocking the driver’s view. During the stop, police identified a passenger as 45-year-old Larry Spurlin. When asked to exit the vehicle, Spurlin fled on foot, running through backyards and jumping fences in the area of Center Park Drive and 3rd Street SE, police said.
Officers pursued and apprehended Spurlin on 3rd Street SE. A police K9 later tracked the route he had taken and located a pouch containing seven bags of suspected crystal meth, suspected LSD strips, suspected ecstasy, and a syringe. Police also reported finding $216 in cash on Spurlin.
Spurlin was booked at the police station and later transferred to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center. He faces charges of possession with intent to distribute Schedule II methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I LSD, possession with intent to distribute Schedule I ecstasy, racketeering, and flight from an officer.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
