The Lakeside Warriors fell to the LaSalle Tigers 32-29 Friday night in Olla.
Lakeside dropped to 1-1. LaSalle improved to 1-1.
Turnovers and penalties hurt the Warriors.
LaSalle led 12-0 before Lakeside had an offensive snap. The Tigers scored on their first possession. They scored again after recovering the kickoff at the Warriors 33.
Lakeside responded with three straight touchdowns.
Kentravion Miller, who had a big night, ran 28 yards to the LaSale 25. One play later, quarterback Brock Case ran around left end 10 yards for the score with 5:28 left in the first quarter.
The first of Gage Williams’ three extra-point kicks cut the Tigers’ lead to 12-7.
Miller scored on a 27-yard run with 3:57 left in the half. Case had an 18-yard run on third-and-23 from the LaSalle 45.
On the Tigers’ next possession, Jayden Maxie returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown. The Warriors led 21-12 with 2:44 left.
The last couple of minutes of the half didn’t go Lakeside’s way.
The Warriors had a punt return for a touchdown wiped out by a penalty then lost a fumble at their 46 with 57 seconds left.
The Tigers completed a pass to the 33. A penalty moved the ball to the 19.
On the final play of the half, the Tigers completed a touchdown pass. A two-point conversion cut the Warriors’ lead to 21-20.
Lakeside also had a long interception return erased by a penalty late in the first quarter.
Lakeside got a big run on its first possession of the second half but lost a fumble at the LaSalle 14 at the end of the play,
The Tigers proceeded to drive 86 yards for a touchdown. The Warriors stopped a two-point conversion attempt for the third time and trailed 26-21.
But Lakeside answered with a touchdown drive. Miller ran 36 yards to the 10. Jaden Clark carried to the 1 and Case sneaked in for the touchdown.
The Warriors added two points on a pass from Case to Noah Redding and led 29-26 with 55 seconds left in the third quarter:
Lakeside tried an onside kick that LaSalle returned to the Warriors 52. The Tigers drove for the go-ahead touchdown, scoring on a run on fourth-and-goal at the 3. They led 32-29 with 10:54 to play.
Lakeside’s next possession ended with an interception on fourth-and-12. It turned out to be its last.
LaSalle converted two fourth downs and ran out the clock.
Lakeside visits Plain Dealing Friday. The Lions (0-1) lost to Ringgold 52-14 Friday night.
