High school football: North Webster routs North Caddo

by Russell Hedges

The North Webster Knights routed North Caddo 47-14 Friday night at Baucum-Farrar Stadium.

North Webster improved to 1-1. North Caddo dropped to 0-2.

The Knights dominated from the start. Second-year Head Coach Christopher Wilson said a big reason for that was the play of sophomore Braylon Washington.

Before the season, Wilson said Washington and sophomore Justin Stewart would likely split time at quarterback. But Stewart has been the quarterback and Wilson is using Washington at several positions on offense.

“We’re treating Braylon like our Swiss Army knife,” he said.

The Knights opened the season with a 38-0 loss to Class 1A power Haynesville. Wilson said he got a text from Washington Sunday.

“He said, Coach, I want the ball. I said, well, you’ve got to show me Monday through Thursday.

“And I guess he wasn’t lying. He had two  rushing touchdowns and a receiving touchdown. So he had a good night.”

He wasn’t the only Knight that had a good night.

Sophomore JaKayden Jackson scored a touchdown on offense and returned a fumble for a TD. Ja’Myrian Jackson and Jameson Harden also scored.

The offensive performance was one of the best in Wilson’s short tenure. The point total was the highest in 13 games.

“We’re just doing what we’re going to do,” he said. “We were just able to get a couple of creases. And we made some adjustments in the run blocking scheme this week because what North Caddo was going to do was kind of disrupt my youngsters. So we kind of fine-tuned some of that stuff. Just get the ball in the guys’ hands and let them work.”

North Webster visits Minden Friday. The Crimson Tide (1-1) defeated Homer 28-0 Friday night.
