Ready or not, the holidays are upon us. So as we turn the corner into November, there’s a certain feeling in the air — a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and anticipation. The leaves are falling, football is in full swing, and before we know it, the holidays will be here. Every year, this season seems to arrive faster than the one before, and I find myself pausing to take it all in while enjoying the meaningful moments and making lasting memories.
For many of us, the holidays mean busy schedules, full calendars, and plenty of lists to check twice. But amid the hustle and bustle, it’s also a time to slow down and appreciate what really matters — our families, our friends, the community we share, being thankful, and not losing focus on the true reason for the season.
This time of year always reminds me why local journalism matters so much. We get to tell the stories of local businesses gearing up for the shopping season, schools hosting holiday programs, families giving back through acts of kindness, and our local churches organizing numerous holiday activities. It’s a season that shows the heart of our community, and it’s something special to witness up close. And as I so often say, at the Minden Press Herald, we are blessed and fortunate to have a front-row seat to the many great things happening in our community.
One of the best ways to celebrate that community spirit is by supporting local businesses. When you shop local, you’re doing more than just buying a gift — you’re helping your neighbors, strengthening our economy, and keeping our hometown vibrant. Every dollar spent locally circulates right back into our community, helping to create jobs and fund the services we all rely upon.
This holiday season, I encourage you to make it a priority to visit the small shops, restaurants, and service providers that make Webster Parish unique. Pick up gifts from local boutiques, order your holiday meals from hometown favorites, and say hello to the familiar faces behind the counter. Those smiles — those connections — are what make our community feel like family.
Of course, the holidays are also about more than shopping lists and endless to-do lists. They’re about spending time with the people who mean the most to us. It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of it all, but some of the best memories come from the simplest moments — sitting around the dinner table, watching a classic Christmas movie, or catching up with friends you haven’t seen or talked to in a while.
As publisher of the Minden Press Herald, I’m thankful for the continued support of our readers and advertisers who make it possible for us to serve this community every week. Your support allows us to share the stories that matter, celebrate local achievements, and highlight the people who make Minden and Webster Parish such a wonderful place to call home.
So, as we head into the holiday season, let’s take time to count our blessings, cherish our loved ones, and support the businesses that support us. Together, we can make this season — and the weeks leading up to it — not just merry and bright, but meaningful.
From all of us at the Minden Press Herald, thank you for letting us be part of your lives and your community.
