School board meets at Minden High School

The Webster Parish School Board held its regular meeting Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Minden High School. All members were present, and all agenda items were approved unanimously. The brief session was followed by the board’s annual Christmas gathering.

The meeting opened with a presentation by Kevin Thompson of Taylor and Sons recognizing Amy Lee, Special Education Facilitator, as the December Employee of the Month. Details of this  recognition will appear in a future article.

The board approved a request from Doyline High School for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students to visit Piney Park in Marshall, Texas, on December 12. Students will pay a $10 fee for the trip.

Members also approved a series of expenditures to support maintenance and improvements at campuses across Webster Parish.

In the annual election of officers, Johnnye Kennon of District 10 was re-elected board president without opposition. Debbie Thomas of District 2 was elected vice president, also unopposed.

Several student trips were noted for informational purposes. Central Elementary School Kindergarten students will travel to a theater in Springhill on December 12 to watch a Christmas movie. North Webster Lower Elementary Kindergarten and 1st grade students will visit The Children’s Learning Museum in Monroe on December 16, while Pre-K and 2nd grade students will go on December 17. J.L. Jones Elementary will take students to the theater in Springhill on December 16 to view a Christmas movie, with costs covered by students and some PBIS funds.

During the superintendent’s report, Superintendent Rowland announced that Rylee Hudson, who attended the Educators Rising national conference in Orlando in June, will be recognized at the December 10 BESE board meeting.

The board entered a 20-minute executive session to discuss a worker’s compensation claim involving Kelly Kervin. After returning to open session, members voted unanimously to settle the matter based on 75% of the attorney’s recommendation.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 12, 2026, and will be open to the public.
