High school girls basketball: Lady Tiders reach Brown Service Center Minden Holiday Classic championship game

The Minden Lady Tiders advanced to the girls championship game of the Brown Service Center Minden Holiday Classic with a 55-13 rout of Gibsland-Coleman Friday night.

Minden (9-5) plays two-time defending champion Arcadia (10-5) for the title Saturday at 6:40 p.m. A big fourth-quarter rally lifted the Lady Hornets to a 52-51 victory over Red River in the other semifinal.

Minden dropped a tough 58-54 decision to Green Oaks in double overtime in the boys semifinals.

The Giants (7-6) play Parkway (5-5) in the championship game at 8. The Panthers handed Gibsland-Coleman (15-1) its first loss 73-70 in the other semifinal.

Parys Gillins led the Lady Tiders with 18 points. Brooklyn Jefferson added 10 and LeLe Johnson nine.

Gillins scored nine and Jefferson six as Minden rolled to a 19-4 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Tiders led 35-7 at the half.

Arcadia rallied from a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter thanks to a fierce press that forced numerous turnovers. Jamayah Flowers hit a layup with 33.5 seconds left to give the Lady Hornets the 52-51 lead.

The Minden-Green Oaks game went into overtime tied at 46 after the Giants missed a shot inside the lane at the buzzer.

Minden hit a free throw to take a 52-50 lead with 12.1 seconds left. But Green Oaks scored inside the lane with 2.7 seconds left to send the game into a second overtime.

Green Oaks took an early 55-52 lead. A tip-in by Kameron Harris got the Tide within one with 45 seconds left.

The Giants made two free throws with 19.9 seconds left. Green Oaks then blocked a 3-pointer a made a free throw with less than a second left.

Cameron Parker and Harris led Minden (4-4) with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Quantavious Sanford led Green Oaks with 19 points.

In the girls consolation semifinals, Homer defeated North Caddo 44-39 and Green Oaks downed North DeSoto 46-26.

In the boys consolation semifinals, Woodlawn defeated Camden Fairview, Ark., 58-57 and Lincoln Prep downed Homer 48-27.
