A Minden man was arrested after officers found him passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle with a 2-year-old child inside, according to a Minden Police Department report.
Police said officers were dispatched at 7:25 PM January 30 to Fort Street near the Red Oak Villa Apartments in reference to a male subject unconscious in a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located Chester Muhammad Keyes, 29, in the driver’s seat with a young child inside the vehicle.
The report states Keyes showed obvious signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody, and a search of the vehicle reportedly revealed an open can of Budweiser in the center console.
Keyes was transported to the Minden Police Department for chemical testing, which he refused, police said. Further investigation revealed Keyes had a prior conviction for second-offense driving while intoxicated and was driving with a suspended license at the time of the incident.
Keyes was booked into the Minden City Jail and later transported to Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.
He was charged with obstruction of passages, open container, third-offense DWI with child endangerment, driving under suspension, and violation of child restraint system requirements.
All subjects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
