High school baseball: Minden shuts out North Webster in season opener

The Minden Crimson Tide opened the season with a 15-0nvictory over the North Webster Knights Monday night at Griffith Stadium.

In other openers, Glenbrook fell to Captain Shreve 12-2 at Shreve, and Lakeside lost to Northwood 9-2 at Northwood.

At Minden, Jaxon Smith, a first-team All-District 1-4A selection last season, allowed two hits, struck out three and walked none in the four-inning game.

Louisiana Tech signee Landon Brewer went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI. Hudson Brown went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Smith went 2-for-3.

Barron Bower drew three walks and had three RBI. The Tide drew 14 walks in the game.

Minden begins a three-game series against D’Arbonne Woods Thursday at 6 p.m. at home.

At Captain Shreve, Glenbrook got just two hits off three Shreve pitchers in the six inning game. The Class 5A Gators had 12.

Glenbrook visits Haughton Tuesday at 5.

At Northwood, Lakeside scored a run in the first inning, but the Falcons took control with six in the second. Jake Glass had three of Lakeside’s five hits.

The Warriors visit Doyline Tuesday at 5.
