NLTCC hosts Junior Senior Day in Minden

by Amber McDown

Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College welcomed high school juniors and seniors to its Minden campus last week as part of its fifth annual Junior Senior Day, giving students an opportunity to explore technical education and career training programs.

Despite some schools canceling because of weather, the Minden event drew students from Doyline High School, Minden High School, BPSTIL, North Webster High School, Haynesville Jr./Sr. High, Plain Dealing High School, Homer High School, Lakeside and Glenbrook School.

The event was held over three days across NLTCC’s Mansfield, Minden and Shreveport campuses and attracted more than 500 students in total. Activities on the Minden campus included campus tours, hands-on learning experiences and live demonstrations led by instructors.

Students also had opportunities to speak with current NLTCC students and meet with representatives from admissions, financial aid and student services. Information was provided about enrollment, dual enrollment options and other resources available to help students transition from high school to college and career training.

Now in its fifth year, Junior Senior Day serves as an outreach effort to introduce students to community and technical college pathways. Most programs at NLTCC can be completed in 18 months to two years, providing students with training designed to prepare them to enter the workforce.
