The Minden Crimson Tide defeated D’Arbonne Woodd 6-2 in the first of a three-game series Thursday at Griffith Stadium.
Elsewhere, the Glenbrook Apaches dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Evangel Christian in nine innings in the first of their three-game series in Shreveport.
At Minden, Landon Brewer pitched a complete game. He allowed no earned runs and four hits with 12 strikeouts and no walks.
D’Arbonne Woods scored its runs in the first inning. Minden tied it with two in the fourth. The Tide drew three walks to start the inning. Kaiden Kinsey and Cody Pruitt scored on an error on an groundout by Barron Bower.
Minden broke the tie with four runs in the sixth. Bray Winston had an RBI-double with one out. Jacob Jefferson followed with a two-RBI single. Brewer then brought home the sixth run with a double.
Winston went 2-for-4. Jefferson and Bower had two RBI each.
The Tide (2-0) and Timberwolves (1-1) face off in Game 2 Friday in Farmerville.
At Evangel, the Eagles tied the game at 1 on a leadoff home run by Bradon Stephens in the bottom of the seventh. They won it with a run in the ninth with two outs.
Glenbrook starter Brayden Watkins turned in a stellar performance. He allowed two hits, struck out 15 and walked only one in seven innings. Darron Hollingsworth struck out three in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
The Apaches scored their run in the second. Ryder Malone and Kleaton Davis led off with back-to-back singles. Tanner Cox moved the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt.
Davis Powell’s groundout scored Malone.
The Apaches (0-3) and Eagles (2-0) meet in Game 2 Friday at 6 at Glenbrook.
