High school track and field: Glenbrook’s Powell third in 400 in Class 1A state meet; Clemons fifth in 1,600 and 3,200

Glenbrook sophomore Carson Powell made the awards stand with a third-place finish in the 400 meters in the Class 1A boys state meet Thursday at LSU.

Powell’s time was 52.63 seconds. Hamilton Christian’s Kaleb Bigwood won with a 48.04. St. Martin Episcopal’s Jacob Odom finished second in 52.15.

The performance capped an outstanding sports year for Powell. He was a key player on the football and baseball teams and reached 1,000 career points in basketball.

Freshman Trent Clemons finished fifth in the 1,600 and 3,200. He ran a 4:51.46 in the 1,600 and a 10:42.39 in the 3,200.

Highland Baptist senior Taylor Blissett won the 1,600 in 4:19.25 and the 3,200 in 9:33.27.
