22 Hands Up etiquette workshop draws strong turnout in Minden

by Amber McDown

The nonprofit 22 Hands Up hosted a well-attended youth etiquette and class workshop Saturday at the Minden branch of Webster Parish Libraries, with speakers covering topics ranging from social manners to interacting with law enforcement.

The workshop was open to youth ages 10-18 and focused on teaching etiquette, communication skills and personal confidence.

Presenter Kalan Little of Houston spoke about both major and minor points of etiquette, emphasizing the importance of remaining calm, speaking confidently, and presenting oneself in a positive manner.

Little encouraged students to carry themselves in a way that would inspire others to see the best in them.

Deware Jones discussed how young drivers should respond during traffic stops, advising participants to keep their hands on the steering wheel, follow instructions, and remain polite when interacting with police officers.

Stephanie Williams of Minden spoke on traditional etiquette topics, including the importance of RSVPs, good manners, and proper table settings.

Throughout the event, participants appeared engaged with the presentations and discussions.

The workshop is part of 22 Hands Up’s ongoing mission to provide mentorship, leadership development and life-skills education for youth in Webster, Claiborne, and Bienville parishes.

“We would like to thank each and everyone for their presence at the Etiquette & Class Workshop,” said founder and Executive Director Darrell Hampton.

The next event 22 Hands Up will host is a tour of Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College on June 8th. Registration is open now.

On July 13, the organization will be partnering with the Sneed Reach 1 Foundation and Aetna to bring youth in Minden The IRL Experience, hosted by L’Jarius Sneed.
